Reaching Out
Pandora's Tribe is currently involved in a non profit outreach campaign to abused, addicted, street based women, youth and men who want to rediscover themselves, gain confidence and find love for themselves and their bodies.
Everyone welcome. Any age, culture, gender, sexual orientation, sexual or gender identity.
Maria and Alexandra with their team can be found at many social events like protests, galas and gatherings promoting peace.
They currently offer classes and workshops for street based women who have some from physically and sexually abusive relationships. In process the dancers learn to love how they look,
learn to stop hating their scars and tattoos from their past and they gain more confidence with which to address the world around them.
This is more than dance workshops, this is place to think, to rediscover the world and change some harmful perceptions.
Pandora's Tribe- The name explained.
Who is Pandora?
In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, "all-gifted".
When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the box-jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.
Why Pandora?
We all have a Pandora within us, not because we released any evils into the world but because all of us at some point in our lives have felt insecure, oppressed, alone and maybe even blamed. What a horrible phenomenon Pandora fell prey to. Blame the woman.
At Pandora's Tribe we take back the name and identity of Pandora, we recreate her into a wonderful significant person she was born to become. We also rediscover belly dance as it was originally intended- for women, for their needs, their pleasure and for their self discovery. Anyone is welcome to partake in this tribe, females and even males, or any other wonderful identity you choose to bring
Everyone in this tribe becomes Pandora.
